Jim and Nancy have always had a passion for finding the solution. Whether the problem had been where to get a good cup of coffee in Orange to how do I fix this weird thing in my house. They believe in taking care of the people around them and have consistently explored the best ways to grow themselves.

Jim came from a family of IBM’ers, and remembers tinkering and woodworking throughout his childhood. After high school he worked at General Dynamics and became the youngest journey men pipe fitter in the State of Connecticut. After meeting Nancy and having a son, they moved to Central Virginia in the 90’s. They were able to move their construction company as well, and Jim spent many years honing his skills as a carpenter and tradesman in the construction industry. In the late 90’s Jim went back to school for his MBA, while continuing to refine his design skills. Once realizing the (he says fun!) challenges that come along with remodeling, he took his newly refined business knowledge, design savvy, and Master Carpentry skills to open the Design Center.

The company evolved greatly over the last thirty plus years. Jim and Nancy felt that homeowners needed a place to see and touch the materials that would be going in their home; to aid them during their dream phase. The low-key environment and one-on-one time with homeowners encourages realistic plans that showcase the value of our craftspeople and products. The interest we take in our clients’ happiness (with our product and process) is a source of pride that extends beyond the Design Center and into the field. We like to say that once you become a client you have a friend in the industry, and we find this to be true with the list of serial clients we have had over the years.  

Keeping in mind the future, and continuing to problem solve, Jim and Nancy have grown their team of craftspeople. Together, new products are being developed that we all believe will extend our accessibility to homeowners while offering them nothing less than the Stellar standard.
